One of my favorite things to do is pop a dvd into the drive on my laptop and watch a dvd that I got from Netflix late at night in bed. It's so easy to do.
My laptop came with Dell Media Direct. I really like this program because it increases the volume on my laptop. One of the downside to my laptop is that the speakers aren't very loud. With Media Direct though, they are loud and you can make them even louder.
About 8 months after purchasing my Dell laptop, I started to get a message that said something about, "Unable to detect a DVD or a DVD device on your computer."
Naturally this was very irritating. It just happened out of the blue one day. I hadn't changed any settings or anything like that.
I searched online for a solution. I was a lot of posts from people wanting to know how to fix Media Direct. I didn't see anything helpful though. I even went to the Dell website, and I did not see this DVD issue addressed on their FAQ's.
Today though, I decided to try getting it to work again. I really miss it. I had downloaded another program, but the volume was very low on it. I'm going to share the solution that I discovered to fix this within a minute or two.
You will need to open up the main program for MediaDirect. I am able to do this by clicking on my start icon on the lower left hand side of the screen and going to all programs. I have Windows Vista on my laptop. Then you simply click on MediaDirect on the list.
After it opens up, you will see different options such as pictures, video, movies, etc. Click on the arrow until you get to settings. Select settings, then restore system defaults.
It will ask you if you want to restore your default settings (or something like this), so click yes.
Return back to the settings page on MediaDirect and click on run system update.
The first thing it will ask you is if you want to check for updates. CLICK NO! Although I'm not positive, I believe that the updates is what caused the problem in the first place. Just click no, select your settings, and Voila! You can now load your dvd movie. You should not receive an unable to detect dvd message anymore. If you experience the problem again, simply go back through the steps listed above.
