Easter Obituary

It's amazing that another Easter has rolled around. I think it's so important that we don't forget the real reason why we have Easter. In this day and age, it's so easy for people to do.

Easter really symbolizes so much to me about Jesus, his life and death. According to the Bible, Jesus was truly the epitome of good. He was kind and loving. He still told the word of God, despite the absolute cruelty and unkindness that people bestowed upon him. He taught of a greater love and a peace that this world can't fulfill.

His death was absolutely horrendous, and I can't even imagine what life must have been like back then, when people could stand to watch death like it was delivered. What kind of society was that? How could people be that cruel? Yet even with his death Jesus thought not only of the salvation of the people in that day and age, but future generations.

Jesus was resurrected from the dead 3 days after his crucifixion. Because of Jesus, we have Easter. Easter isn't about Easter clothes or what kind of meal you are going to have. It's about Jesus and remembering what he sacrificed for all of us, believers and non-believers alike. I can think of no greater love then that.

Many of us tomorrow will be eating and taking our kids for an Easter Egg Hunt. There is nothing wrong with that. We need to remember and acknowledge the real reason for Easter though, not only to ourselves but to our children as well. As Christians, we can't let the course of time take away the meaning behind the holiday.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!
