Weekend trip to London KY

We decided to take an overnight trip to London, KY, and so far it has definitely been an experience. We've had really great weather here in KY the last two days, so I couldn't ask for better on the temperature. It ranged from 70 to 76 on the drive.

After a nice little drive, we arrived in here in London. I was amazed that it is so hilly. Or should I say mountainous. Once you get into London, it's actually very pretty though. Interestingly enough, we are only 2 hours or so away from Gatlinburg, TN. I've only been to Gatlinburg one time, and it was absolutely beautiful. In a way, London kind of reminds me of Gatlinburg.

After much research, I had made reservations at Quality Inn here in London. The rate was $59.99 plus tax. I had read a few reviews of the place and see a few photos, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Quality Inn in London is very pretty. The pictures didn't lie. It features an indoor and outdoor pool. It was also advertised as having WIFI. The price is affordable, and the rooms are done in a very pretty gold. Plus, they don't have those itchy bed covers on the top like many hotels do.

Upon arriving, I couldn't wait to break out the laptop and post an entry about our little trip. After getting the computer started, I was very disappointed to find that I could not get a good signal in the room. I called up to the front desk, and the clerk said she would contact their "Internet guy." Amazingly at 10:30 at night, I'm still being told that they were never able to reach him.

So you are probably wondering how I was finally able to get Internet access. As a last resort, I brought the computer in the bathroom. I actually have it on the counter. This is the only place I am able to get a connection. I tried in the pool room, parking lot, and office. So if you ever stay here, be warned!

We got a chance to get out and sight see a little bit before swimming. I ended up at a place called Fantastic Nails here in London. I decided to spend $25 for a much needed pedicure, since spring (and sandals) are just around the corner. I have to say that they did a great job, but they are not very big on small talk.

The pool room has a hot tub and swimming pool that goes up to 4 feet deep. The hot tub was so nice after the drive. I really enjoyed it. The pool though has an odd smell that is not chlorine. The indoor pool and outdoor pull are actually connected through a section that has a piece of plastic glass in between them. Although the outdoor pool is covered, the plastic has a series of holes in it that allow the water to flow between both pools. Maybe this has something to do with it?

For our evening meal, we tried out a place here in London called Shiloh's. I have to say this place has the best bread, honey butter, and dinner salads that I have ever eaten. The buttermilk ranch dressing is homemade and delicious. The salad that came with my steak had cheese, croutons, and just about everything you could want. The croutons tasted homemade and were the best I've ever had. No wonder the place was packed. Plus if you are a guest at Quality Inn, you get a 10% discount. Shiloh's really reminds me of Logan's Steakhouse because they offer peanuts. And believe me the floor looks like Logan's too.

After eating we returned back to the hotel and found that a lot more people have checked in. We ended back up in the pool room and had a great time.

So tomorrow it's back home and getting ready for a new week. During the drive, we crossed over into another time zone. At midnight tonight, we will lose an additional hour as well due to Daylight Savings (is that what it's called?). Checkout is at 11 AM, so that will really seem like 9 AM to us. Despite the time loss, I have to say that I have really enjoyed our little getaway. After I get back, I plan on uploading pictures to share. Check back!
